Pruning Seminars

Join us for one, two, or all three of the upcoming sessions, designed to help you learn the basic art and science of pruning. According to our surveys, pruning is one of the most enjoyed garden activities, so come on in, pick up some tips and get going!

Pruning 101, Sat. Jan. 26 at 10am *FULL*

Doug and Dave Neufeld, the dynamic pruning duo, return to show you how to prune deciduous fruit, flowering and shade trees. They are exceptionally knowledgeable (and a lot of fun to watch)! Sorry, as of Jan. 22nd this session is now full.

Pruning 102, Sat. Feb. 2 at 10am *FULL*

In this follow up session, Brian will be demonstrating how to prune a wide variety of the most popular garden plants, including evergreens, hedging, berry plants, flowering shrubs (incl. roses), vines, perennial herbs and more. Sorry, as of Jan. 24th this session is now full.

Pruning, The Abridged Version, Sat. Feb. 9 at 10am

Not able to make the earlier sessions, or just have a really small garden? Brian will cover the highlights of both Pruning 101 and Pruning 102 so that you get a good overview of pruning basics. Please call 604.792.6612 to register for this free session... space is limited.

Chilliwack Spinners & Weavers Guild

We're pleased to welcome back members of the Chilliwack Spinners & Weavers Guild! Watch them as they work, ask questions about their craft and take a look at some of the beautiful pieces they have created (some items will be available for purchase too)! They will be located in the Tropical Area.

Tired of moles making mountains of your yard? Then this the session for you! Join Bert Pulles, aka 'The Mole Man' as he discusses how to take on the moles and win, once and for all! This is a free session but registration is requested. Please sign up at the front counter.

Bloomer Bus to the Flower Festival... Road Trip!

Thursday Feb. 21, 7:30am-9:30pm, Tickets $95ea

Join Brian as he hosts a one day bus trip to the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival in Seattle on Thursday Feb. 21. The bus departs Minter Country Garden at 7:30am (there is one pick-up/drop-off spot in Abbotsford), arrives at the Festival around 11am where you can explore the show independently until 6pm, and then we're back by about 9:30pm. The theme of this year's Festival is 'Gardens of the World' and there will be gorgeous garden displays to view, a marketplace to shop from, seminars to attend and more. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a fun, inspirational garden day trip, without any of the driving! We hope you'll consider joining us!

Festive Photo Ops & Contest

During Store Hours in December

Congratulations to 'WhimsicalSpaces' (Instagram), winner of the contest! Thanks to all who participated! Gather your family and friends and grab your camera! Nearly all of our photo ops are ready to go (some just need a few finishing touches) and they look fantastic! The themes are 'Angel Wings', 'Birch Forest', 'Snowy Road', 'Into the Woods', 'Enchanted Tree', 'Wine Country' and 'Santa's Seat' (which has a collection of funny props you can borrow too!). There is no charge to come in and take your photos, please just be mindful of anyone waiting to use them as well. Thank you! Be sure to tag us (@MinterGardening) in your photos on Facebook or Instagram and you'll be entered to win a prize of a $250 Gift Card to our store!
Contest details: There is no purchase necessary to participate. Photo must include our Photo Ops and be tagged with our social media handle (@MinterGardening). Deadline for entries is 5pm (PST) Dec. 23, 2018, and the winner will be drawn at random and announced that evening. Winner must be able to collect the Gift Card in-store, and present photo ID so that we know it's you! There is one prize only.

Seasonal Scavenger Hunt

Weekends in December* During Store Hours

Kids are invited to pick up a scavenger hunt form from our 'Welcome' table and search high and low throughout the store for the answers! When they are done, the form can be brought to our main cashier for a prize! There is no charge to participate. *The hunt will be available Dec. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23. Please note... the Hunt will be transformed into 'Reindeer Games' on December 22 & 23... details to follow!

Live Owls & Raptors from Raptors Ridge

December 8, 9, 22 & 23 11am-3pm, Nature Walk at 1pm

The folks from Raptors Ridge are bringing some of these magnificent birds to visit again this year! Come and see Great Horned, Barn, Barred and Pygmy Owls, learn about their habits and habitats and what you can do to help them out. Guests are invited to take part in a guided walk at 1pm each day too! There is no charge to view the owls or participate in the walk (just dress for the weather for the walk portion!).

Youth Owl Classes

11am-12pm Dec. 8, 9, 22 & 23 for Kids Aged 8-15! This 1hr session focusses on the secret lives of owls and why they are truly amazing in flight, hearing and eyesight. Each student will receive their own owl pellet for dissection and have a chance to meet 'Radar', the Great Horned Owl! Pre-registration is required and is limited to 10 students per class. Photographer's Experience Fundraising Event: A Close Up with the Raptors!

December 8, 11:45am-12:45pm, one day only Kim and Karen of Raptors Ridge are providing photographers with a rare opportunity to get close-up photos of the Birds of Prey! The cost of the session is $25 per photographer (sorry, this is limited to photographers only, no exceptions, and sorry, no additional people in the frame) and all funds will be donated to Elizabeth's Wildlife Centre (in Abbotsford). Pre-registration and pre-payment are required by December 5th. Please call 604.792.6612 to register (or visit us in-store). Space is limited to the first 10 people registered, and five minute time blocks will be allowed. Sorry, refunds will not be given for cancellations. He may be a scoundrel, but he sure is fun to see! The Grinch will be sneaking and slinking throught the store for a few hours each afternoon.

Santa Claus & Mrs. Claus Dec. 20 & 21, 5-6:30pm

Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be here together for two evenings only! They'll be visiting throughout the store and pausing to take photos if you wish, so be sure to bring your camera.

Santa Claus! Dec. 22 & 23 from 1-4pm

Jolly Old St. Nicholas is coming for a visit! He'll be stopping by to say hello and visit with guests throughout the store for a few hours before he has to make his way back to the North Pole! Be sure to bring your camera... and any last minute requests!

Elf Academy Kid's (& Grown Up's!) Crafts

Dec. 1, 8, 15 & 22 at 10am, $12 including tax,

Instead of just one, we're holding four different Elf Academy sessions this year, each with its own special theme! Participants will be creating fun, garden inspired crafts worthy of Santa's approval and, at the end of the session, each participant will receive a special certificate of completion. 'Grown Ups' will have the option of participating this year too (the same fee will apply), and some of the crafts will allow for a bit more complex 'crafting'. Space will be limited and pre-registration and payment are be required. Chilliwack Hospice 'Celebrate a Life' Tree

Remember loved ones who have past and support the Chilliwack Hospice Society, and the incredible care they provide, by hanging a butterfly on their tree of celebration. By donation.

Cultivate Cafe's 'Breakfast with Santa'

Dec. 2 During Select Hours - SOLD OUT!

Join us for a delicious buffet breakfast with Santa himself. Mingle with Santa and snap the perfect holiday photo. Cookie decorating, hot chocolate station and a self guided scavenger hunt through Minter Country Garden are included in the morning of fun. Santa will give each child 2 gifts, 1 for themselves and one for them to donate. Gifts generously donated by Culture Co. Adults $17, Kids (10 and under) $12 plus tax. Meet the Maker: Artist Julie Head

Dec. 1, 10am

Julie Head, of Fragro Cards (and Fragro Herbs!), will be in the shop for a few hours with her beautifully hand-drawn cards and larger botanic pastel drawings as well, and she'll be demonstrating some of her talents while she's here! SPCA Pet Photos with Santa

Saturday November 24, 10am-4pm by Donation

A popular tradition among pet owners! Photos are by donation (minimum $10 donation please, $20 for a tax receipt) with all funds raised benefitting the animals rescued and cared for by our Chilliwack SPCA. Pet food donations are respectfully declined, but if you would like to bring SPCA animals something special, new toys are appreciated. Please ensure dogs are leashed-thank you!

Gift, Craft & Antique Fair

One of the most popular shows in the Fraser Valley! Kick off the holiday season by visiting over 70 exhibitors offering: baked goods, knit designs, collectibles, pottery, handcrafted jewelry, antique furnishings, hats, natural products, wood crafts, candles, skincare products, live music (during select hours) and much, much more!
